Here in NYC, all professional sports are considered "holy" activities, close to religion. When one of its stars falls, like Plaxico Burress, NYers feel betrayed and cheated. Those were the chants heard around the blogosphere after ageless Kurt led the Cardinals to victory the past three weeks.

Many of us pundits did not take note that those three Cardinal wins came against three lower tier teams:

4) Are the Jets on crack, or are we?

The Jets just made it look too gosh darn easy against the undefeated Titans today.

Talk about clicking on all cylinders...

The Jets looked machine like in their dismantling of the Titans today in Memphis.

The Jets made the Titans look downright bad.

And it's not ALL about Brett.

Can you say, Leon "The Whisper" Washington?

3) Will the real Jay Cutler, "please stand up?"

What's up with this guy?

Every week we want to believe (excuse me, every other week we want to believe) and every other week we are let down AGAIN.

This Sunday was no different at Mile High. The line on "Cuts like a knife?" 16-37, 234 yards, no touchdowns, one interception, and lots of frustrated Bronco receivers.

There were whispers about Cutlers ability to stay calm, cool, and collected in order to control his immense talent coming out of college.

Those whispers are now louder than an ill-timed Cutler audible.

I am starting to believe that Cutler is looking more like Tommy Maddox than John Elway.

2) Jake Delhomme, do you and Jay Cutler hang out together?

Believing in the Panthers, John Fox, and Jake Delhomme is like playing the game, "Peek-a-boo, I see you!" with your kid before nap time.

Your kid gets tired from laughing so hard and well...falls asleep.

Here's the problem with John Fox and Jake Delhomme. Some weeks, these two like to play this game DURING A REAL NFL GAME!!

PS: Jake woke up sometime in the fourth quarter, with the game pretty much out of reah, padding his stats with a touchdown run and pass, keeping his "fantasy faithful" at bay for one more week.

1) Philip Rivers: Biggest tease in the NFL.

Just when we think Philip is going to be a stellar All-Pro quarterback year in an year out, he always leaves us wanting....

...and his horrified looking coach, Norv Turner pining away for more out of his talented quarterback.

CASE IN POINT:

How many more time will we watch Philip throw a third down pass late in the game for eight yards when he needs nine, usually around the other team's 40-yard line with two minute left in the game?

Next, watch Philip drive the team down the field with ease, then pass for eight yards when the Bolts need nine with about a minute 30 left to play.

Electing not to go for it on 4th-and-1, Norv punts the ball back to the other team, who, in turn, get the ball back with about a minute left.

Now, watch the other team complete about two to three passes for 20-30 yards and kick a 50-yard field goal to win the game as time expires.

Now, watch as the television camera pan over too a dejected L.T. on the bench with a towel over his head.

Now watch Norv Turner look as if he has just seen a ghost.

Now watch Philip shake his head with a look of frustration on his face.

Then watch Philip and trot across the field to congratulate the other teams victorious quarterback.

Wow, it must be hard being San Diego Charger fan!

"Real Change" for Washington? "Redskins" No Way!

On Monday, November 3rd, 2008, the eve of the presidential election, Chris Berman from ESPN asked both presidential candidates to address one issue "for change" regarding sports in America.

The interview took place during halftime of the Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Washington Redskins game on Monday Night Football.

Obama replied that he would like to see college football implement a playoff system for a national champion.

McCain offered up a similarly safe response by stating that he would expect more policing and monitoring of drug use in sports.

That being said, I'd like to offer up my opinion:

Start by changing the name of the racially insensitive, Washington Redskins.

The name "Redskins" gets a double whammy for:

1) Being totally insensitive to American Indians, and

2) It's the name of the football team in the city that houses our federal government.

Come on folks, give me a break!

Daniel Snyder, owner of the Washington Redskins, if you ever read this article, please take note.

The Washington Redskins have bad karma for a reason.

It sits on the head of every Washington Redskins football player.

Mr. Snyder, the monumental "face" of America will change right in front of our eyes on January 11, 2008 when President-elect, Barack Obama takes the reigns of this country.

A "face" that's embodied in the talents of your starting quarterback, Jason Campbell.

Is it any wonder that a Superbowl won by the Redskins came by way of an exceptional African-American quarterback by the name of Doug Williams?

That's right! Doug Williams led the Redskins in Superbowl XXII to victory on January 31, 1988 by beating John Elway's Denver Broncos.

Williams earned MVP honors in that game completing 18 of 29 passes for 340 yards, and four touchdown passes, arguably the best quarterback performance in Superbowl history.

Mr. Snyder, why not make some real change with your franchise instead of just spending millions of dollars trying to fix a problem that you just won't allow yourself to see?

Seize the moment, the limelight, the world stage, something I am sure you would not mind at all!

Bad karma can't be fixed by throwing money at it.

Bad karma can only be fixed by realizing that a wrong has been committed, and doing something about it!

We as a country have changed. We expect more from ourselves and each other. "WE the people" have evolved, hopefully.

That includes respecting each others identity.

Atlanta Braves and Cleveland Indians take note. Your'e next.

Daniel Snyder, it's time for you to put your millions aside and make a bold and "brave" statement for your country.

Show America and the rest of the world that change really has come to America.

Show the rest of the world that "WE the people," put people first in this country, instead of personal financial gain.

I was going to get into the various litigation about the use of the name "Redskin" and surveys that "confirm" that American Indians do not seem to mind the use of the term "Redskin."

However, all that talk gets away from the core issue.

Can there be any good argument that legitimizes, rationalizes, and endorses the use of SKIN COLOR for a team's nickname, especially in our nations capital?

No way!

As we New Yorkers sometimes say, fuugggggeeetttaaabouuutiitt!

"Ok, Why not the Blackskins, Whiteskins, GoldenBrownskins, or Yellowskins?"

Interesting note: If one takes the Redskins last home game record since 1936 when the team was still in Boston and called the Boston Redskins, one has a 94.444% chance of predicting the next president. Let me explain.

The Boston Redskins beat the Chicago Bears in 1936 and incumbent President Franklin Delano Roosevelt was re-elected.

Fast forward to 2008.

The Steelers beat the Redskins on Monday Night, and Barack Obama became president-elect.

Redskins lose? New party. Redskins win? Same party.

This has happened every single election, not withstanding the 2004 election when W. got re-elected.

Go figure.

That tallies to a 17-1 record for the Redskins since 1936. Not bad odds.

Now it's time to make those odds go to work for America.

Daniel Snyder, please seize this moment in history.

Seize this moment for your team, your city, and your fans.

Your players will appreciate it too!

I will even go as far to suggest a new name for the Redskins.

Let's change our thinking about this.

The name, "Washington" sounds kind of long and boring to be quite honest.

Why not think outside the box and use "DC" instead?

"DC" sounds kind of cool and edgy. And similarly to the Tennessee Titans, who recently changed their name from "Oilers," let's use a name that symbolizes power, the world beyond, an overall awareness.

What about the, DC Comets? Now there's a name!

Recently acquired NY Jet quarterback Brett Favre will get the opportunity to realize another dream while quarterbacking the Jets this season, competing in his first NYC marathon! Confidential sources have told "the Alan Show" that the NY Jets will allow Favre to train for the NYC marathon while starting at quarterback for the Jets this season. Favre found enough time while visiting NYC today to take a quick tour of the marathon route. When pressed about this development, Favre stated frankly, "Look, I am 38 years old, this has been a life long ambition of mine, and I wanted to do this while still starting as a quarterback in the NFL. Although the NYC marathon takes place on Sunday, November 2nd when the Jets take on league rival Buffalo Bills, a source close to the team stated, " We are100% committed to Brett's goal to compete in the NYC marathon and we are willing to give Kellen Clemens a start against the Bills to show what he can do. Overall, this is a minor concession when it comes to working with Brett, and after all, it's the Bills we are talking about here."

Also looking to cash in on the recent Favre trade, mega giant shoe maker, Nike, will run a new series of, "Brett knows Football and Brett knows NYC marathons" ads. These ads, based on the famous Bo Jackson, "Bo Knows Best" ad campaign, will feature Favre, in full NY Jet pads, dodging NYC rush hour traffic, then hurling a football over the Verrazano Bridge to the waiting arms of last year's 2007 NYC Marathon Women's champion, Paula Radcliffe from Great Britain. "There was a Packers fan with a really crappy seat at Lambeau. Looking with his binoculars, he spotted an empty seat on the 50-yard line. Thinking to himself "what a waste" he made his way down to the empty seat.

When he arrived at the seat, he asked the man sitting next to it, "Is this seat taken?"

The man replied, "This was my wife's seat. She passed away. She was a big Packers fan."

The other man replied,"I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. May I ask why you didn't give the ticket to a friend or a relative?"

The man replied, "They're all at the funeral."

Jeremy Shockey finally got his wish, an escape from himself for another day...traded to Nawlins. The man just couldn't handle the Giants winning the Super Bowl without him. I don't care how big and bad ole Shock thinks he is, he ain't nothing but a big ole crybaby to me. Didn't want to practice with his team mates during the off season, couldn't run routes correctly, dropped passes for no darn good reason, and when he got hurt, he wouldn't stand with his team mates as they marched on to victory. Sorry Shock, don't let the door in the Meadowlands kick you in the behind.

I Googled the word "STINKER" and this image came up in google images. I do not know who Darren Purse is, but it says in this article that he had a real "stinker" of a season at some point for Cardiff City. Purse admits that, "On a personal note, I had a rubbish season, certainly below average to tell you the truth and I need to turn it around next time," Purse told the South Wales Echo. So as I am trying to understand UK slang...I get the connection between the word "stinker" and "rubbish." After all, rubbish stinks!
